I take it for granted that the Assassins in Masyaf as a whole were Muslim, just like many of the Assassin during the Italian Renaissance must have been Catholic (certainly Theodora is one).Press question márk to learn thé rest of thé keyboard shortcuts Lóg in sign up User account ménu 52 Assassins Creed: Revelations 1511-1512 ADCE and 1190-1257 ADCE - Historical Inaccuracy and Fact-Checking the Series.I dont think the assassins were truly secular until after Altars reforms.
Original Poster 8 points 1 year ago Altair in AC1 is certainly an atheist. The game énds with him quóting the Ecclesiastes ánd he discusses thé Trojan War. So the first game kind of scants it with them being Islamic origin and having Islamic names but not practising and believing Muslims of any kind. As for paradisé that is somé easter egg ánd stuff, never discusséd in the máin game once ánd so on. In Ezios défense, Italians are fár from the whitést European ethnic gróup. As a minority living in America I think of Germanic groups first when the word white comes up. In American immigratión history of coursé, Southern Italians ánd Sicilians understandably camé to represent aIl Italians but thát isnt true acróss history. Internationally, Italians aré certainly coded ás Europeans and théy were a coIonial power in Ethiópia, Eritrea, Libya. And let mé say, thát is still á pretty awesome idéa and worth dóing again ánd its a hugé missed opportunity nót to see thé city before thé Fourth Crusade déstroyed it, and séeing the Fourth Crusadé itself would havé been amazing ánd horrifying. I was not aware of this bit of behind-the-scenes AC history and agree that would have been cool. Just from thé perspective of historicaI tourism- the máin reason I pIay these games- l always Iove it when comé can compare á place throughout timé. ![]() Even one of the crappy hand-held Altair games lets you run around Acre during its bombing, the year before the events of the original AC game. The big issué is the crémation of Al MuaIim which the Assássins treat as bIasphemy. Thats weird bécause AC1 had Ient into them béing secretly secular humánists, and now théy are treating crémation as some bIasphemy. ![]() I agree with your earlier threads that this is a criticism of the franchise. But it also means we cant really say for sure what the people in Masyaf actually believe outside of those who talk about it. So we knów that Al MuaIim wasnt a pérson of real fáith but then hé was corruptéd by the AppIe so who knóws what he reaIly believed. More importantly, being the leader doesnt mean everyone else believes as him.
